Benefits of the Human Growth Hormone for Older Men

Administration of the human growth hormone in the synthetic form helps reverse the signs of aging. By the age of 30 years, the synthesis and secretion of HGH starts diminishing. Consequently, several undesirable signs of aging start making their appearance; fatigue and weariness, loss of muscle tone and muscle strength, reduction in bone density, mood swings, loss of libido, weight gain and depression.

Supplementing the body with HGH exerts remarkable benefits. It perks up energy levels, boosts immunity, reduces susceptibility to a host of illnesses, increases muscle mass, enhances strength and stamina, boosts libido, reduces fat and provides mental stability. All these features make HGH supplements highly attractive.

The hormone is secreted in adequate amounts during childhood and adolescent phases. So, HGH supplementation is not recommended for them. It is administered to children, only if they demonstrate symptoms of GHD (growth hormone deficiency).

A research study of the effect of the growth hormone on older men, in the range of sixty to eighty years, was conducted by Dr. Daniel Rudman in 1990. The study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Twenty one healthy men were selected for this study, in which twelve were administered the growth hormone, while nine men were considered as the control group, and not administered GH. The dosage of GH used in the study was 0.03 mg/kg of body weight, administered subcutaneously, thrice a week. The measurement of the hormone was done with the help of plasma IGF-1 levels. The results of the study were made, based on parameters like: lean body mass, fat content, skin texture or stiffness and bone strength. The level of plasma IGF-1 levels was 500 to 1500 IU per liter, for those undergoing GH treatment, while, the level was below 350 IU per liter for the control group. The results demonstrated 8.8 % increase in the lean muscle mass, 15 % decrease in fat content, 1.6 % increase in bone mineral density and 7 % increase in the skin texture. No changes were observed in the control group.

All through our lives, the pituitary gland produces the growth hormone. But the levels of this hormone decrease gradually, by about 15 to 20 % for every decade, as the age advances. In aged people, the signs of aging become apparent, due to a diminution in GH. Hence, the growth hormone supplements and products exert several outstanding effects on the body, repeal the signs of aging and proffer general physical and mental health.
