How hormones play a role in miscarriages?

Ideally levels of progesterone should see a surge within 48 hours of ovulation. Low progesterone level is also treated as a symptom of non viable pregnancy by many doctors.
In addition to low levels of progesterone, thyroid disorders, namely hyperthyroidism (a condition characterized by increase production of thyroxine hormone), is considered to be a cause for spontaneous abortion.

In order to manage the low levels of progesterone, progesterone suppositories are prescribed to patients to elevate the levels of progesterone and make the pregnancy viable.
As an alternative Clomid, a drug is prescribed to patients to elevate the levels of the hormone. However, the selection of the patient for hormonal treatment depends on several factors, as usage of the drug can reduce cervical mucus, which in turn can affect fertility.
Anti Thyroid drugs also play a crucial role in the management of hyperthyroidism, which can interfere with the ability of conceive normally.

There are different ways to prevent miscarriages in women, immaterial of the cause of miscarriage. Here are a few tips,
• Diet plays a critical role in sustaining a pregnancy. It is recommended that the female should avoid alcohol, smoking, refined foods, tinned or canned foods, foods with artificial colors, etc. Stimulants like coffee, tea, etc also need to be avoided.
