Building Thigh Muscle

A useful guide on "Building Thigh Muscle".

The thigh consists of a group of muscles referred to as quadriceps. This is a mass of muscles that is made up of four muscles. This mass is found on the front of the thigh and on the sides. The quadriceps is the strongest muscle in the human body.

The muscles that make up the quadriceps are the vastus lateralis, rectus femoris, vastus medialis and vastus intermedius.

• Vastus Lateralis is found on the outer part of the thigh.
• Rectus Femoris is found in the mid-thigh section.
• Vastus medialis lies on the inside of the thigh.
• Vastus intermedius is located between vastus lateralis and the vastus medialis.

Appropriate Exercises

These four muscles enable thigh and leg movement, whether in walking, running, squatting and jumping. They are connected to the knee cup with the rectus femoris attaching to the ilium. The ilium is the upper part of the hip bone. Being the strongest muscles in the body, building thigh muscle is a necessity. This can be done through various exercises that specifically target the muscles. These include:

Snatch Exercise: - This is done by stretching the arms out while standing with bent knees. The back should stay straight with the head straight up. Moving up and down while in this position strengthens and builds the thigh muscles. Apart from the thigh muscles, other muscles that benefit include the lower back muscles.

Walking Thigh Exercise: - This is done without any weights. It involves standing upwards straight and walking on a flat surface, taking care that the knees do not surpass the toes. This specifically targets the thigh muscles.

Squat Thigh Exercise: - Squatting for a reasonable time then relaxing while sitting down with the legs straight and flat on the surface provides one of the easiest and effective exercises for the thigh muscles.

If you are part of a gym, there are a number of machines available which have been specifically designed to help in building thigh muscle.

Disciplined is Effective

Building thigh muscles through exercise is safe and effective. As with other types of exercises, it is good to start simple and then increase the period and intensity of training with time. Building thigh muscles requires less space and can effectively be done at home. Thigh muscle exercise sessions should be well planned to avoid chances of missing sessions as irregular training sessions can cause pain as muscles are stretched to the limit on a particular day then suddenly relaxed the following day.

Exercising involves a great loss of energy and liquids which need to be replenished. By not doing this, you are putting your health at risk. Keeping in shape required the need of a good diet that is made up of minerals, vitamins and nutrients. These are easily obtained from fresh fruits and vegetables. Junk foods while exercising are very dangerous to the body. The body wears out fast and one is left lethargic with broken body tissue. Eating healthy and drinking lots of healthy fluids ensures that the muscle cells continue to grow with the muscles building up. Remember that the key ingredient to building muscle of any kind is protein.
