A useful guide on "Muscle Building Diet". The diet is a very vital aspect of muscle enhancement exercises or body building in general. In fact, trainers and professional body builders will readily tell anyone that building the muscles without eating the right foods is definitely the wrong way to go about it. Without a varied and well balanced diet, body building is fruitless. Body building results in the growth of new tissues and this requires that the right nutrients are available for this. Also, a lot of energy gets used up in the process necessitating a need for proper nutrition. Components of a Muscle Building Diet A body building diet must be one that has all the necessary food nutrients in the right quantities. Since muscle building results in a higher need for energy, a body builder needs to focus on eating a well balanced diet, usually assisted by supplements more than a non bodybuilder. The basic food components of a body builder’s diet are discussed below. Carbohydrates The role of carbohydrates in body building is very significant. Bodybuilding is impossible without the right types of carbohydrates and also, the right quantities. Remember that body building requires a lot of energy for the activities it entails. The primary source of this energy comes from carbohydrates. Without sufficient energy, the body will not be able to function maximally and this will impair body building. In order to get the sufficient levels of energy, complex carbohydrates are required and this can only be gotten from food. Examples of foods rich in complex carbohydrates (also known as good carbs) include: rice, potatoes, bread, wheat, and oats, amongst others. The other types of carbohydrate are simple carbohydrates. While these are not useful as the primary energy source for body building, they are important after workouts. This is because they provide a fast source of energy that replaces insulin depleted during workouts. Sources of simple carbohydrates include: chocolate bars, bananas, fruit juices and others. It is usually recommended that a body builder’s diet should be rich in complex carbohydrates with lesser amounts of simple carbohydrates. Proteins These are the building blocks for muscle tissue and a muscle building diet that is not protein-rich will greatly impair the program. This is because there’s a constant replacement and repair of muscle tissue going on in the body. The intensity is more for body builders, especially for weight lifters. As a result, they require large amounts of proteins in their muscle building diet. Proteins also serve as sources of energy and play other vital roles in keeping the body in shape. Animal and plant protein sources include: meat, fish, milk eggs, beans, and vegetables. A muscle building diet also contains the right quantities of fats, vitamins and minerals, water, and fruits. The fats that should be consumed are good fats which can be found in sources such as fish oil and flax seed oil. All of these pointers are fundamental in building muscle of any kind. |
